We have established
an Oil Record Book, which comes in two parts
and is in both Chinese and English, in accordance
with Regulation 20 of Annex 1 of the International
Convention for the Prevention of Pollution
from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol
of 1978. The Oil Record Book is a collection
of forms to be completed.
Oil Record Book, Part I,
is provided to every oil tanker of 150 GT
and above as well as every ship of 400 GT
(all ships) and above to record relevant
machinery space operations.
Oil Record Book, Part II,
is provided to every oil tanker to record
relevant cargo/ballast operations. Therefore,
only oil tankers are required to use Oil
Record Book, Part I and Part II; all the
other ships are only required to use Oil
Record Book, Part I, for recording machinery
space operations.
It is important to make
entries in the Oil Record Book and maintain
it because the entries made in it are usually
checked during the PSC inspection. If no
entries are made, or if deficiencies are
found in the entries and endorsement, a
ship may not be allowed to leave the port.
The oil record shall be signed after recording
the oily water discharge, and each page
completed shall be endorsed by the master
of the ship.
