| In view of different international conventions, various types of surveys
are required to be conducted, and relevant international convention certificates
and reports, issued. They can be divided into five categories, which are
outlined as follows:
A. For surveys carried out in accordance with the International Load
Line Convention 1966, there are Renewal Survey and Annual Survey.
1. The Renewal Survey is carried out every 5 years. An interim certificate
valid for 5 months may be issued by a site surveyor upon satisfactory
completion of a survey. Our Taipei Head Office will reissue a full-term
certificate with the validity not exceeding 5 years.
2. The annual survey is carried out every year within 3 months either
way of each anniversary date.
B. For surveys carried out in accordance with the International Convention
for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974 and the provisions of relevant amendments,
the following four certificates shall be issued to ships as the SOLAS
Convention covers a wider scope:
(1) Cargo Ship Safety Construction Certificate
(2) Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate
(3) Cargo Ship Safety Radio Certificate
(4) Document of Compliance/ Safety Management Certificate (DOC/SMC) :
This will be detailed in ISM.
1. As the SOLAS Convention has been repeatedly amended, the mandatory
codes amended include the following:
(1) FSS Code (Chapter II-2)
(2) LSA Code (Chaper III)
(3) ISM Code (Chaper IX)
(4) GRAIN Code (Chaper VI)
(5) IBC Code, IGC Code, INF Code (Chaper VII)
(6) HSC Code (Chapter X)
2. As different rules and regulations apply to different ship types,
relevant
certificates are required to be provided, eg:
(1) The International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships
Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk ( IBC Code )or the Code for the Construction
and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (BCH Code)
shall apply to chemical tankers, and an IBC Certificate,or a BCH Certificate,
shall be issued.
(2) The International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships
carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk(IGC Code) shall apply to gas carriers,
and an IGC Certificate shall be issued.
3. For surveys carried out in accordance with the provisions of the International
Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 and the 1981 amendment,
they are included in the requirements of Cargo Safety Equipment; therefore,
relevant certificates will not be issued.
4. Relevant certificates and survey intervals are as follows:

C. For surveys carried out in accordance with the International Convention
for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships 1973/1978 (APAMARPOL 73/78),
a total of five annexes to MARPOL 73/78, which involve the prevention
of pollution by oil, noxious liquid substances, sewage and air, have become
effective successively.
The Oil Pollution Prevention (Annex 1) covers a wider scope at present.
If all the requirements are complied with, the certificates and survey
